This article will share a bunch of meals to try at home with your toddler. You can start giving your baby solid food from 6 months upward. Healthcare providers recommend continuing breastfeeding to strengthen the baby’s bones and health.
You need to be extra careful when you prepare a baby’s food. Ensure you use only well-scrubbed and washed produce, clean hands, utensils, cutting boards, and countertops. Prepare food following all the nutritionist guidelines. Most food/ meals can be served immediately after being prepared, but some may need a refrigerator. You will give your toddler three meals and 2-3 snacks daily.
Parents must try to schedule their children’s eating routines. It will help your baby establish consistent meal times, and develop healthy eating habits. The baby will be able to create a relationship between eating times which gives a sense of security.
Schedules may differ from each parent’s preference
Sample of eating schedule
Breakfast 7 am – 8 am
Snack 10 am
Lunch 12 pm- 1 pm
Snack 4 pm
Dinner 6 pm – 7 pm
Snack 8:30 pm (depend their bedtime)
If the baby goes to bed at 8 pm, do not give them a snack after dinner. Give 1-hour break from eating to allow digestion before bedtime, so the last snack depend on your baby’s bedtime.
Breakfast Ideas for toddler
- Eggs & Strawberries: Take 2 eggs and boil them for 5 – 10 minutes. When they are ready, cut them into dice. Wash your strawberries thoroughly, and cut them into 2. Put these into a plate or bowl and get safe utensils to use for eating.
- Nutella & Banana: Take one slice of bread, and cut out the crust layers. Spread the Nutella on it, and roll a slice to fry on the pan. To fry use a small amount of margarine. Fry until golden and brown. Cut bananas and blueberries into small rounds. It ready to serve
- Strawberry Banana Oatmeal: Pour a cup of milk into a pan, 1/3 cup of oat, and stir. Add 1 smashed banana, and stir. Add strawberries, and stir. Add cinnamon, and honey, and stir. Let it cook for 2 min, and serve.
- Sweet potato pancakes: Boil 2 medium size sweet potatoes, when ready smash them. Add one egg, and cinnamon and mix together. Add margarine to the pan, and when it is hot make your pancakes. Dish your pancakes, add some yogurt with chia seeds on the side. You can add any fruit of your choice.
- Scrabbled Egg & Avocado: This is the simplest breakfast ever. Take 2 eggs and make a scrabble on your pan. Take 1 avocado, peel the layers, and put it in the bowl. You can smash it or slice it. Add any fruit of your choice.
You can buy ready to eat snacks for your toddler such as fruits, nuts, crackers, cheese, dairy. Snacks do not need to be perfect!
